While the web version of Portrait with Wolf is recommended, the work can be experienced offline with an Interactive Fiction interpreter. If you don't already have one, I suggest Lectrote.

I played this with a friend and we found it fascinating! However we couldn't really parse it well (w regards to like, its meaning and the story(presumably) behind it), it was hard to get a head start, is there a simple way to approach this or is it meant to be slightly evasive?

Thanks for checking it out! When I made it, I envisioned each screen as a kind of poem. It is still a game, though, with a true ending to work toward.  If you type E, you can see how many endings you have unlocked. That should give you an idea of how to move forward, even if the story isn't making sense yet.

There are some unlockables after the true ending, too.

Thanks again for playing my game!
